Project details

Transforming a historic 1935 lido into a modern, accessible, high-performance outdoor swimming facility. Devin is proud to have worked on this historic lido pool refurbishment. Hilsea Lido originally opened in 1935 and the fully refurbished pool has been reopened in its 90th year. The project involved the complete refurbishment of this historic lido, including the refurbishment of the pool tank and replacing the pool water treatment system. The original scum channel configuration was converted to a modern deck-level system, improving water quality, accessibility and bather experience. Previously unusable shallow areas were reinstated, increasing the capacity for younger pool users, while the main pool depth profile was optimised to improve circulation and reduce supervision requirements.

Project role

Devin supported the project from feasibility through to completion, including:
  • Condition surveys and water treatment audit
  • Development of refurbishment and layout options
  • Concept design
  • Technical support through contractor design stages
  • Site monitoring and commissioning validation
Our works provided continuity and specialist expertise throughout all project stages, de-risking the project and ensuring system performance.

The new pool water treatment system was incorporated into the existing plantroom and included:

  • PAC flocculation
  • Medium-rate sand filtration
  • UV disinfection
  • pH correction
  • Chlorine disinfection

The facility now delivers consistent, high-quality water in line with modern operational standards.
