Volunteering and giving back are at the core of the Devin team – whether that is working with St John’s Ambulance, donating blood, or taking part in a physical challenge for charity, the desire to ‘do more’ is strong.
Each year one of our senior project engineers, Steve Thomas, takes part in a challenge with a group of friends to raise money for charity. This year’s challenge was close to home; one of those friends has a daughter who was born with FOXG1 Syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder which means she will need specialist care her whole life. Grace Waller is now 3 years old and the ‘Walk for Waller’ was an event to raise funds to help this family. 26 people completed the 26-mile hike along Hadrian’s Wall from Chollerford to Newcastle Quayside and were supported by another 10 non-walkers who were on hand to provide refreshments at 3 checkpoints along the way. It was an overcast day but spirits were high especially for the last leg along the quayside as Grace joined the team pushed in her buggy by her Mam.
This group of friends has smashed their fundraising target of £2000 but if you’re able to donate every penny is very much appreciated. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/walkforwaller
